Liver disease and cancer, general gastroenterology, and sustainability in healthcare
Dr Shirin Salimi is a specialist gastroenterologist and hepatologist. She obtained her medical degree from the University of New South Wales and completed advanced training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Royal Prince Alfred and Liverpool Hospitals. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP).
Dr Salimi has a broad clinical practice encompassing all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. She has expertise in the management of liver disease, fatty liver disease (MASLD), viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, iron deficiency, gastrointestinal bleeding, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and bowel cancer screening. She performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Salimi is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care and works closely with patients and referring doctors to develop individualised management plans. She values clear communication and a collaborative approach to care, with a focus on helping patients understand their condition and navigate often complex investigations and treatment options.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Salimi is undertaking a PhD through the University of Sydney investigating strategies to improve outcomes for patients with liver cancer. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in gastroenterology and hepatology and remains actively involved in clinical research and medical education.
