Profile

Dr Paul Edwards is a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Gastroenterologist at Liverpool Hospital and Fairfield District Hospital. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Sydney (1982) and undertook his internship and advanced training in gastroenterology at St Vincent’s Darlinghurst from 1982-1989. Following this he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 1993.

In 1991, Dr Edwards was awarded International Travelling Fellowship to train in ERCP at Duke University, North Carolina. After completing his fellowship, he returned to Australia and was appointed VMO in Gastroenterology at St Vincent’s Darlinghurst. Since then, he has served as the Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at St Vincent’s Darlinghurst (1995-1997) and at St Vincent’s Private Clinic (2004-2007).

Dr Edwards specialises in therapeutic ERCP and has personally performed over 15,000 ERCPs since returning to Australia in 1993. He has a special interest in direct cholangioscopy (Spyglass) and has performed more of these procedures than anyone else is Australia. He has been an invited demonstrator/lecturer in ERCP and cholangioscopy in Cape Town (2016), Royal North Shore l ERCP meeting (2016) and RPA Endoskills program (2017).
